A comprehensive eye check up is an important part of preventative health care. Comprehensive eye exams can detect eye diseases and disorders such as glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachments and macular degeneration.
Following tests are kind of comprehensive eye check up
Retina is the light sensitive layer at the back part of eye, because of which we are able to see. It can get affected by variety of conditions .
RETINAL DETACHMENT is one such condition in which the retina gets detached(separated) from its underlying layers. The photoreceptors get devoid of nutrition and oxygen supply and can eventually lead to blindness if left untreated.
Retinal detachment usually requires an urgent surgery and can be repaired by techniques like vitrectomy or scleral buckling depending upon the condition of retina on diagnosis of detachment.
Retinal surgery is also carried out in cases of advanced diabetic eye disease wherein the bleeding inside the eye is cleared or the pull on the retina is removed along with laser so as to restore vision and prevent blindness.
If holes or tears in the retina are found before the retina detaches, laser can be done around them to decrease the risk of detachment.
Persons with a high minus number, having history of injury to eye, family history of retinal detachment are at risk of developing this.
Pharmacotherapy in the form of intravitreal injections with various medicines like steroids, steroid implants, Anti-VEGF agents is carried out for a variety of retinal disorders like diabetic macular edema, venous occlusions, macular degeneration.
Pharmacotherapy at present is the first line of treatment and standard of care for such eye disorders.
Diabetis afftects the retina , a condition known as dibetic retinopathy. In this there can be fornation of new blood vessels on the retina which can easily bleed and/or there is swelling in the centre part of retina i.e macula causing blurred vision. LASER can be effectively used in treating diabetic retinopathy
Blood glucose control and management of other medical issues such as cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and kidney disease are also important in reducing the risk of diabetic retinopathy.
Two laser techniques are performed today, generally using an argon laser
Scatter or pan retinal photocoagulation - Generally requires 1,200-1,800 individual laser spots, usually spread over two or three sessions. In this technique the ophthalmologist avoids the macula, the central area of the retina that is responsible for our reading vision, color vision, and other tasks requiring sharp vision. Scatter laser photocoagulation is used to treat proliferative diabetic retinopathy, a major cause of severe vision loss from diabetes
Focal laser surgery -Uses fewer spots and less intense laser power to treat diabetic macular edema. Using a technique called fluorescein angiography and other examination and photographic techniques, the ophthalmologist identifies areas that are leaking fluid into the macula area. These areas are then treated directly with a laser to prevent further leakage of fluid into the macula and to allow fluid that has already leaked to be reabsorbed.
Phacoemulsification cataract surgery is a procedure in which an ultrasonic device is used to break up and then remove a cloudy lens, or cataract, from the eye to improve vision. The insertion of an intraocular lens (IOL) usually immediately follows phacoemulsification.
Phacoemulsification is a modern cataract surgery in which the eye's internal lens is emulsified with an ultrasonic hand piece and aspirated from the eye. Aspirated fluids are replaced with irrigation of balanced salt solution, thus maintaining the anterior chamber, as well as cooling the hand piece.
In a phacoemulsification procedure, an incision is first made in the cornea, the outer covering of the eye
A variety od intraocular lenses like monofocal, toric, multifocal, enhanced depth focus are available.
We can guide you regarding which lens suits you the best
Glaucoma is a vision problem related to a high level of pressure within the eyes. This intraocular pressure affects the optic nerve and leads to a severe diminution of the vision. Left untreated, glaucoma can actually result in total blindness. That's why it's imperative that you visit your doctor or our eye care center should you notice any changes in the quality of your vision. We can carefully examine your eyes and determine if you are at risk for glaucoma or are already in its early stages.
It is usually caused by or worsened by pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure, or IOP) that is too high for the continued health of the nerve. The only proven treatment of glaucoma is lowering of IOP in order to prevent or to slow down the damage to the optic nerve.
Our eyes are our most important sensory organ. That's why optimum vision is an absolute must.
The first sign that our vision is deteriorating is not always blurred or unfocused vision. Headache or eye strain in the evening could also indicate defective vision.
We provide Computerized Eye testing with accurate and is the best way to check for spectacle number
